Mud Soccer

I'm home for 5 days in a row! Which is the longest I'm in my home state all winter break. But I've been in a fog whenever I've tried to write recently (Rémy, my muse, has wandered off again), and I've tried to combat this writer's block as best I can. I've been relaxing and eating a lot (I have to get up to a certain weight for crew, I know it's weird), and today I played mud soccer with a few of the high school amigos.

Now, mud soccer is played in the mud (I don't mean to sound patronizing) with basically no rules. You have to hit the other team's recycling can to score, but you can from any angle, even behind. There are no boundaries to the field in mud soccer, and tackling is encouraged. I should also mention that I'm pathetic at contact sports (and mud soccer is absolutely a contact sport), so I was keeper (hey, the HP reference wasn't my idea for once!). I don't think you're supposed to tackle the goalkeeper in any sport, but I was tackled many times by my friend who's 6'8" and well over 200 lbs., and I lived to tell the tale. (I'm 5'3" and, well, not 200 lbs.) But I was a surprisingly good keeper (maybe I should change the name to gryffindorkeeper, eh?), letting in only 3 goals. w00t w00t. But of course my friend who I hate (it's a love-hate thing) tackled me whenever I let anything in, and he was on my team. (At least he's only 6'2".) Mud soccer is very rough.

So that's my story. Rowers (and coxswains) can play soccer too, only we make it slightly more interesting. I will return to writing as soon as I get all the mud out of my ears. Hopefully Rémy will take some time from his holiday in St Moritz and throw me a bone.

That's what she said! Ug, terrible, I know.

Post title stolen from Gilmore Girls.

It is with a heavy heart that I tell y'all that there might not be updates of anything until February. Now, I'm not saying that definitively, because miracles happen every day and I just might be able to squeeze an update in. But I'm only going to be home about nine days of my month-long winter break, and in my travels to New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Florida, Connecticut (again), Florida (again), Connecticut (third time!), I have no idea when I'll have internet, or even computer access. Plus I'll either be with my family or my rowing team, and both parties have no idea that I write fanfiction.

But Life & Lies is next up, and I will try to make the chapter unprecedentedly awesome. I am so sorry that the wait will be so long (in my heyday I could pop out chapters every three days). But, I need to be honest with you because you guys deserve that, and know that I will do my darnedest to update all my stories as fast as I can. (In this context, 'fast' means at a snail's pace.)

Okay, I stole the title from J.D.'s blog on Scrubs. And it's not even relevant to this post. But it's funny! Eh, eh?

I really want to make a list, but I can't think of anything to make a list about. Hrm.

My Top Ten Most Favorite TV Shows! (with commentary)
  1. The Office (US edition) - A bad episode will make me fall out of my chair laughing, and a great episode will make me pee my pants. (Ooh, what about those episodes that make me fall out of my chair AND pee?) So many people can relate to these charming characters, which is one reason why it's so popular. Me? I'm a combination of Pam and Kelly's personalities, but I look like Jim's little sister. Seriously. My mom thinks it's creepy.
  2. Gilmore Girls - It's no secret that I want to be Alexis Bledel when I grow up. I'm Rory, my mom is Lorelai, my dad is Luke, my dog is Paul Anka, I'm from Connecticut, I have a Korean best friend, I have a Paris (who is also shorter and blonder than me, like Rory's Paris), I eat a lot more than people think I do, and most adults like me. But alas, I am not exactly like Rory. Coffee scares me and it's Brown, not Yale.
  3. Scrubs - The most underrated show on television today, which bumped it up to the #3 spot. I laugh at least every two minutes at the INSANE characters, yet the show manages to be heartwarming as well. Plus, I am Elliot Reid, even more than I am Rory Gilmore. We grew up in exactly the same town (she had an apple orchard, I had an apple tree...close enough), we both went/go to Brown, we're absolutely neurotic, say 'frick' all the time, mustn't be spoken to when we're on the toilet (or face the consequences!), and get made fun of as skinny little white girls from culs-de-sac in Connecticut.
  4. House - I like it better than Scrubs in many ways, but it's getting too popular for my liking. But it's super awesome because House IS Sherlock Holmes (solves mysteries, abusive personality, has drug addiction, has a Watson named Wilson), and Hugh Laurie is disheveledly handsome. Plus he rowed for Cambridge (yay crew!). And I love this new season and his new dream team (for the most part). And when will House and Cuddy hook up already?
  5. Lost - Come back to me! In withdrawals after Season 3's cliffhanger. This is the smartest show I've ever seen, and I tend to shy away from mindless programming (cough Grey's Anatomy cough). The writing is phenomenal, the characters incredibly developed and diverse, and the acting and producing impeccable. End the writer's strike so we can figure out how they get off that damn island!
  6. The Daily Show - This is literally how I get my news. Or got, rather, since there are NO NEW EPISODES! Growl. Jon Stewart should be the next president. I kid you not.
  7. The Colbert Report - Pronounced "the Colbear Repour". This is different from the Daily Show in that Stephen assumes this outrageous political pundit character. My favorite thing about the Report is Stephen's phobia of bears, since that's my school's athletic mascot. Plus, Stephen technically ran for president for a while, and if none of these other guys (and girl) step up their game, I'm using a write-in ballot. Stewart/Colbert, '08!
  8. The O.C. - We've had a turbulent history, you and I. Season 1 = awesome. Season 2 = not so much. Season 3 = I don't really know, since I tuned out. Season 4 = sad, because they canceled a good thing! Now, I don't relate to anyone on this show, but s'ok. It's just fun to watch the drama play out, and I actually most enjoyed the storylines involving the adult characters.
  9. Criminal Minds - Bounced down this far because Mandy Patinkin left. ("You killed my father...prepare to die!") It's still pretty awesome, though. I don't usually go for crime shows, but this one is different than the twenty billion CSIs and Law and Orders out there. There's actually character development (ça alors!). But I can't watch it right before I go to sleep, because it gives me nightmares.
  10. Gossip Girl - A show I watch because The O.C. is gone. Same producer, different coasts. Filthy rich kids from the Upper West Side of Manhattan instead of Orange County, CA. Scandals galore, constant infidelity, and angst. Not to mention the pretty, pretty people. It gives me something to do Wednesdays at 9 to distract me from schoolwork. It also helps keep me up to date on pop music, since I'm out of that loop. Is it normal that I know indie music way better than pop?
I love making lists. And hey, I can go as off topic as I want, eh?

I finally started work on Ch. 12 of The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore. Helena's role will become increasingly significant in this chapter, but Ch. 13 is going to be mad crazy amounts of our Hel. I have through Ch. 15 outlined, but that's only the beginning of his summer. I'm looking at somewhere between 20-25 chapters, depending on how the Gellert stuff goes. I've never written slash before so I really hope I don't butcher it. Therefore, I'll need to devote extra care and attention to chapters beyond 15, so they'll probably take even longer =(. I just want to make sure I do this right, you know? This fic went from Albus/OC to Albus/Gellert abruptly and halfway through (not my fault!), and I am rolling with the punches as best I can. But I'm in an Albus sort of mind now (smug, sarcastic, etc.), so the writing is going well. I hope that L&L Ch. 12 is the next chapter of anything that I get out, but I cannot promise a timeline. For the next month or so, I'm traveling across the country (the US) several times in a rather chaotic fashion. But apparently my muse, Rémy le Skier, is back from St Moritz and is ready to get crackin'. As soon as finals are over =O.

Saskia Ch. 6

The Escapades of Saskia Lin! has been updated. It's kinda short, but it's something, eh? Hopefully more writing will get done over winter break. I hope.

Hokay....

I know I said I'd focus on certain stories in an attempt to get them done as quickly as possible, but I've found that really isn't working. I've been in a creative drought for the past few days (street name: writer's block). Well, it isn't so much a creative drought, since I know exactly what needs to happen in which chapter, and I also know how I want to execute it, but it's just not coming out on the virtual paper. I'm burnt out in general, not just from fanfiction writing, so I'm going to take it easy. I'll write when good stuff starts coming out, and I'll write the story I'm best suited to at that moment, because I feel that's fairest to everyone, including myself. Updates will be slow and sporadic over the next few weeks/months, and for this I apologize. My muse is on holiday at St Moritz (I named him Rémy and he is an excellent skier) indefinitely (flakey muse!), so we'll see the direction the wind may blow. I'm sorry if you guys are really anxious for an update, but I can only do the best I can do, right? Thanks for sticking with my stories!

Working On Saskia Ch. 6

I got a tiny bit of writing done today! And slight spoilers for the peeps who haven't read the currently posted chapters, but our girl tells her dear sweet Liver something very important. Eek! But it's good fun to write, and I hope y'all accept it :).
