Soooo Close!

K, I literally have one more scene to write for Ch. 11 WG, and I promise that it will be up sooner than projected! (See, I have been writing.) I'm also waiting on this thing for the chapter image...I don't want to spoil the surprise, but the base photo really needs to be edited, and you'll see why.

I love reading all the comments you guys leave here! I've been really focused on writing so I haven't been able to respond to them (or the review responses), but I do appreciate them. It's reassuring to know that people actually read this blog and I'm not just spieling to myself.

And on a completely unrelated note, watch Arrested Development! I just got into it and have been obsessing. I actually think it's tied with Scrubs as the second funniest show I've ever seen. (The Office will always reign supreme.) It was canceled years ago so you have to either get the DVDs or watch it at msn.com (provided that you have Internet Explorer).

Stuff

Yeah! 1500 words of We Gryffies Ch. 11 so far! w00t! (Don't you dare spell w00t with o's instead of zeroes.)

Uh, it probably won't be as long as Ch. 10 because there's been complaints about its length, so I'm shooting for 4000-6000. You guys must be pretty hardcore readers if you've ventured to my blog, and I think I can give you a taste of Ch. 11, more perplexing than spoilery: the manipulative side of the Gryffies, Ravenclaw Quidditch match, Drystan Davies' beautiful golden locks, Tegan swallows something she shouldn't, J.D./Rose drama, guitar lessons.

See, I have it all planned out. If it's not up by the end of February, permission to chuck sharp objects at my head is granted.

ADDENDUM 2/4/08: I posted a preview of Ch. 11 on the HPFF forums, and I think I'll do the same at the Elderly HP Fans forums. If you want to read a little snipper ;)

Birthday Wishes

Because I haven't emulated JKR nearly enough (what with using her characters and her world to create my own fiction), I'm going to follow her lead again and wish my characters a happy birthday. (Provided I actually remember, of course.) For the canon ones, I've naturally made up their birthdays if it's not given, so these are just when I like to think these guys were born.

And a very happy belated birthday to those Gryffies characters who've celebrated a birthday this school year:
  • Tegan Llewellyn, September 7
  • Scorpius Malfoy, September 22
  • Arlie Shacklebolt, October 2
  • Mattie Thomas, December 2
  • Hugo Weasley, December 12
  • Micah Horowitz, December 15
I also wanted to thank everyone who's given me their condolences. It's so kind of you and I never realized the extent to which you readers care about me. Your enthusiasm and wonderful reviews mean so much to me, and you've made a very difficult time that much easier to get through. I'm still trying to wake up from what feels like a very, very bad dream, and I've really found that writing is therapeutic for me.

Operation Chunky Monkey

Planning out stuff here.

1) We Gryffies --> 50+ chapters? Depends on if we get through 7th year, but I have plans for post-Hogwarts ;)

2) Saskia --> How badly I want to finish her tale! But my muse is gone and writing is painful, so between 10-15 chapters. Basically I want to cover marriage, pregnancy, birth, baby names, and epilogue.

3) Everything else --> Up in the air. I do want to finish The World Is Not Enough and Romula and Remus desperately, but I'm in what I like to call my "crisis phase", in which every aspect of my life is falling apart except my coxing (ergo athletic) career. I'm depressed a majority of my days, which is bad, especially since my uncle died because of a heart attack caused by depression. Or so the doctors say. But he was really, really depressed, and then he died, so I'm worried. And since my real life is crumbling to pieces, fanfic can't be my priority.

Oh, and the staff "hid" Life and Lies because of inappropriate content or something, but it's an irritatingly ambiguous section of the ToS. I respect the staff for running a safe and efficient site, but of course I'm not pleased. Then again, writing about a depressed Dumbledore probably doesn't help my own depression.

Heath Ledger died, and that set me over the edge. Sorry if I sound like a disjointed raving lunatic, but it's almost 2 AM. I went to my grandmother's funeral yesterday, drove to school this morning, went to classes, ate very little food, and did fanfic stuff from dinner 'til now. Everyone in my dorm is drunk and happy, but I just can't drop down to that level of self-absorbed bliss right now. I cry and I'm running out of tissues.

So this is Operation Chunky Monkey, how I'm going to finish my fanfiction "career". We Gryffies is the most likely one to be finished, and Saskia a close second. The other ones are unlikely to be finished, but maybe I'll hand them off to another author if the plot bunnies are good enough.

Thanks for everything, guys. I'm not leaving or anything...but I need to wrap things up. I'll be around for the next year or two.

Déjà Vu All Over Again

Title is a quote by the wonderful Yogi Berra, whose intellect is truly dizzying.

I never really intended my imagination journal. to be this sombre*, but you can't always choose how your cookie crumbles. My grandmother passed away, and I'm just having a bad month.

There's been two deaths on my mum's* side of the family in a little over two weeks, and I kind of feel like Pink Floyd's 'Comfortably Numb'. I mean, my grandmother had Parkinson's Disease so it wasn't a shock or anything, but this is hard all the same. I was sort of named after her (her maiden name, at any rate), so now I'm the Reigning Kelly. I don't know if this is totally bizarre, but I can't help but think that we shared the same mitochondrial DNA, and now she's dead. Is that normal when your mum's* mum* dies?

So about fanfiction...eventually, I suppose. I want to start spring term (which is Wednesday...great timing!) with as few mental breakdowns as possible, and I really need to minimise** stress, so updates will probably be even worse. I'm really sorry, because lately I've been about as useful as a poopy-flavoured* lollipop, but you can't choose how your cookie crumbles. Sometimes you just take a bite of it and expect chocolate chips, but crack your tooth on a shard of radioactive metal.

*I like spelling things the British way.
**I don't really know if that's how the Britons spell it.

...the truth is I never left you!

Title and first line stolen from Andrew Lloyd Webber.

I haven't forgotten about you guys! I know I haven't updated in ages and have been slightly M.I.A., and I'm sorry about that. I'm currently on a training trip for crew and I'm exhausted and have very little free time, plus the internet is VERY spotty in the Floridian old people apartment complex where we're staying.

But but but, I'm about 2,000 words in to the tenth chapter of We Gryffies. To be fair, however, I'm shooting for over 8,000 words. I like the idea of long chapters because I'm able to take my time and add in lots of detail.

So hopefully Ch. 10 will be out by February or sometime during it. You might not find it action-packed, but I think you'll like it. It'll be interesting.

2008 Isn't So Great

I know I haven't posted recently and that I probably seem like a lazy, good for nothing cotton-headed ninnymuggins, and to a degree that's true. But my grandma, who's had Parkinson's disease for almost as long as I've been alive, is in awful shape at a nursing home. We sort of expected her to go sometime after Christmas, since she's very weak physically and conversing with the other side. As in, chatting with the folks behind the veil. She'd spoken with a distant great-aunt of mine and knew she was dead before anyone told her, and the Virgin Mary wants her to cross over. So when my mom looked sort of fragile this morning, I thought my grandma died.

But my uncle did, last night. They think it was a heart attack (though he never had heart problems), but they have yet to perform the autopsy. I think he was sixty and had some health problems, but was fighting a losing battle with depression for the past few years. It's sort of been a huge shock to everyone, since we're all accepting that Grandma will inevitably go soon.

He's not my blood uncle (my mom's sister's husband), but he's the only aunt or uncle by marriage that's stuck around for as long as I've been alive. He didn't like children very much but he loved me and my brother, and I always saw him as this one constant in an ever-changing world.

The point is I don't know when I'm going to write again. I want to work on Ch. 13 of Life & Lies (even though 12 isn't even written), and you'll see why when I finally post everything. As you might imagine, I'm not in a We Gryffies or Saskia mood, so please be patient with those fics. But I figure those of you who read this blog are pretty hardcore readers who will totally understand, and I thank you. I will respond to reviews and get back into the saddle gradually and when I can.

I used to want the Cloak of Invisibility out of the Deathly Hallows, but I think I've changed my mind. I want the Resurrection Stone now. And not just because of Uncle Bill or Grandma, but too many people I'm close to have died in the past 7 years, especially the last 2.

Thanks, guys. It really means a lot that people like my stories.
