also, i lost 2,000 words of the next We Gryffies chapter due to a hard drive explosion. (devotees will remember that a similar tragedy occurred several months ago!) but i had about 300 words of that saved on google docs, so i needn't start over entirely from scratch. however, this will complicate my goal of finishing the chapter by christmas.

but the real purpose of this post is to share a book recommendation with you! after listening to an interview with gustin nash, the screenwriter of Charlie Bartlett, i decided to read Youth in Revolt, because this guy is adapting it for film and spoke so highly of the original novel. and let me tell you, i am incensed that no one in my life so far has ordered me to read this outstanding epistolary work before now.

Youth in Revolt: The Journals of Nick Twisp, written by C.D. Payne, is exactly the sort of novel that i could only hope to write one day. i would even dare to call it the Catcher in the Rye for the '90s. it chronicles the life of 14-year-old nick twisp, a sarcastic kid with a remarkable vocabulary who is obsessed with trying to get laid. (sex humor abounds, so read it with caution.) this book is simply the most hilarious and insane thing i've read in a very long time, and nick's narration is refreshingly intelligent and sophisticated. if you like We Gryffies but want something better, i enthusiastically recommend Youth in Revolt. you can read the beginning of it on google books to see if it's up your alley. (disclaimer: it would be rated Mature on HPFF. and i mean Mature, not We Gryffies' level of Barely Mature.)

and because i love Butters and not so much Twilight, here's a clip from the season finale of South Park. (clip itself is actually 12+ in language.) Butters is spying on what he thinks are real vampires, and satire ensues.
